Change is inevitable, but how can we deal with it?

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

We live in a world where change is inevitable; the past couple of years having proved just that. Something as unexpected as the pandemic has changed people's lives in ways that we could have never imagined. We have had to deal with mental, financial, emotional, health and lifestyle changes, and that doesn't cover half of it. Though not all change is bad, when we are hit with an unforeseen event, it is natural to be taken back, pandemic or not.

In this blog we will be focusing on habits that we can implement in our daily lifestyle to help us deal with said changes.

Stress-relieving activities

Having regular, stress-relieving hobbies is beneficial for many reasons. Indulging in something that brings you joy or leaves a positive mark does not only give you something to look forward to, but it ensures you keep a healthy, balanced lifestyle. It is easy to forget to spend time or invest in things that make us happy, so here is a list of a few things you can try:

  • Meditating

  • Exercising

  • Reading

  • Listening to music

  • Travelling

  • Spending quality time with loved ones

  • Games

  • Napping!

Be prepared

Understanding that things don't always go as planned is important when it comes to dealing with change. This explains why, as humans, we have a nature of having back up plans. How often do you hear the term Plan B used? For example, business owners never have just one business plan. They anticipate that certain things might not go as intended, and therefore have various fall-back plans. Without obsessing too much about the future, because that is something we can't predict, it is important to plan around what you know. That is not to say to forget to live life in the moment!

Support system

Surround yourself with trustworthy people that have gone through similar changes as you. If you're dealing with a career change, find someone who has been in your shoes and find out how they dealt with it. Alternatively, you can search for relevant blogs, forums, articles and videos that can help.
